StepNext keeps the app useful without building a profile about you.
Effective date: April 17, 2026
What StepNext collects
- Apple Health step count and walking or running distance, in read-only mode only.
- Foreground location while the app is open to generate nearby routes.
- Local settings on your device such as step goal, height, units, reminders, and route preferences.
What StepNext does not collect
- No account information because the app has no sign-in system.
- No advertising identifiers, analytics events, or third-party trackers.
- No location history after your session ends.
How data is used
Health and step information is used to estimate your remaining distance and route fit. Location is used while the app is open to start route generation nearby. Route requests are sent to public routing providers used by the app, including OSRM for walking routes and Overpass API for nearby stop suggestions.
Storage and notifications
App preferences, route history, and manual step adjustments stay on your device through local storage. Reminder notifications are scheduled locally on the device when you enable them and can be disabled at any time.
Your choices
You may deny HealthKit or location access and continue with manual step entry. You may disable notifications, remove the app, or clear device data at any time.
